Practical Impact of the Age of Criminal Responsibility: Perspectives of Public Safety Professionals
Wednesday, July 26, 2017 11:00:00 AM PDT - 1:00:00 PM PDT
In this webinar, the Age of Criminal Responsibility Research Training and Technical Assistance (ACRR TTA) Center will engage the National PREA Resource Center and a public safety professional in discussing how age of criminal responsibility policies impact youth being served in adult facilities. Once a child is in custody, public safety professionals must take extra precautions to keep youth safe from harm and to implement the Youthful Inmate Standard of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). The Co-Director of the National PREA Resource Center will review the standards of PREA as they relate to youthful inmates (i.e., any person under the age of 18 who is under adult court supervision and incarcerated or detained in an adult prison or jail). And, the PREA Coordinator for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department will reflect on the challenges the department faces when housing and seeking to protect youth.
